NJ Fishing Club - Fishing Report April 2021
Well folks, we’re off to a pretty rocking start this April. I’ve been all over the state this month, and there’s fish to be caught everywhere.
Blackfish is our fish of the month, so let’s start there. The action on the inshore wrecks seems to be the best place to be right now. The life is there and the fish are chewing on all sorts of offerings from crabs to clams and cooked shrimp. There hasn’t been many trophy size fish reported and we still don’t have any weigh-ins this month with 1/4 of it gone already. Get out and weigh something in! There’s been some good reports from land as well. The bite off the Jetties is definitely slower but there are plenty of fish to be had. There was an 8 pounder weighed in (not for the club) at Fisherman’s Headquarters this week, caught from the Barnegat Light Jetty.
Striped Bass action has been off to a solid start as well. The folks catching larger fish right now are fishing the Delaware River and the Raritan Bay. However, there is plenty of action to be had with bass all over the state. Target areas in the back bays along sod banks during the lower parts of the tide and you should be rewarded. If you’re fishing the Night Shift, check out the bridges and docks with lights. You should find bass feeding during the right tides.
